Tuesday we kept them up to see the Christmas lights. That's the problem with daylight saving, it doesn't get dark enough to see the lights until 9pm. Great lights though. One house had big kangaroos pulling Santa's sleigh across the roof and a Santa that danced when you pushed a button. In another court, every house was lit up from top to bottom (except one Scrooge who had obviously felt the pressure enough to put up one or two strings!).
Then on Wednesday we had a Chrissy dinner at friend's and by the time we got them in the car it was 11:30pm. I can't believe they were still awake, little troopers (not Finn obviously).
On Chrissy Eve there were lots of Christmas cartoons on our newly acquired Foxtel channels, so they were up 'til about 9 that night as well. Chrissy morning we slept in 'til 7am, when Finn, who didn't have the late nights, woke. We brought him into our bed for a cuddle and milk and in the end the kids took so long to wake up that we both got up, had showers, then stood outside their bedroom staring 'til we woke them up.
Santa brought a Buzz Light Year and My Little Ponies (among a zillion other things) so all was well in the Morrissey household. On seeing the My Little Ponies Will very excitedly exclaimed 'Aoife, you've got My Little Ponies!' to which she replied, 'No! They're my little ponies'.
Aoife hadn't quite got the idea of the Santa sack, so she just watched Euey for a while 'til Will took her aside and showed her there were a million things in that pillow-case type thing that she may want to look at. Euey totally understood what was going on this year. He pulled everything out, unwrapped everything that was wrapped, told everyone else to 'unwrap it, unwrap it!', then after about an hour or unwrapping and playing asked 'Am I going to get any more presents?'.
Finn scrabbled around in his new one-leg, one-knee crawl, ate a few bits of paper, banged a couple of things that looked good to bang and was generally his happy little self. He was quite taken with the trolley we got him to push around, but has yet to learn the art of taking steps, so it was a little awkward after he pushed it forward.
After the kids had chosen a bucket full of pressies each (literally, Santa brought buckets and spades for the beach) to take with them to Mum and Dad's we headed off for lunch. big Simson Family Christmas Lunch on the New Deck! Morton Bay bugs, lobster, oysters, prawns and two HUGE fish on the barbie. I twas awesome. Followed by Plum Pudding 'cause we couldn't throw tradition out the window completely.
Euey took my promise that he could eat whatever he wanted on Christmas Day to heart. He had 3 lollipops for breakfast, a bowl full of nuts and some chocolate money for morning tea, a few bits of real food for lunch, followed by huge amounts of ice cream (see photo), then a bit more ice cream, a couple of bottles of milk and bed.
Aoife, who has never really taken to lollies and cake, didn't like her lollipops, had baked beans on toast for brekkie,k helped herself to a punnet of blackberries when we got to Mum and Dad's, ate heaps of boiled bacon and potato for lunch (showing her Irish roots), a few bits of fish and prawns, then a little ice cream piled with millions more berries. We'll never have a problem with that child's nutrition.
Fin just ate constantly throughout the day and was happy with whatever anyone gave him - except for the bread on the ham sandwich, he threw that on the floor. But he does that with all sandwiches - pulls them apart, throws one bit of bread either side of him and eats the meat, then the cheese and sometimes the vegies. He's a carnivore. The ice cream was his favourite today, until Dad fed him a chocolate. Woah! That was a taste sensation he hadn't discovered before. It wasn't 'til he'd had half of it that I tasted it and realised it was a very strong liqueur chocolate! Oohps. He had a sugar high, and was possibly a bit drunk for awhile 'cause when he tried to clap his hands for some reason they seemed to stop just before they connected. It was quite amusing, to him and us.
I preferred the lobsters and oysters myself. YUM! Willy ate up a lot of seafood too (he really is turning into a true Aussie).
And now, what you really wanted to see - the photos ...
Christmas Eve.
